8 Questions to ask your web design specialist
Websites come in many different forms with different functionality so asking the right questions from the start is essential. We’ve come up with a few questions below to ask your web design company. One area to focus on in particular is the domain name and hosting costs, this is often hidden from the advertised website price, so be careful.
On what platform will you build my website on?
Most professional level websites will be custom built to a bespoke website design, these websites can be integrated with WordPress.org or standalone websites. Most clients opt for a WordPress installation to enable them to update their own website.
If you have a WordPress shopping website then it should include WooCommerce. Other options such as Wix or Shopify don’t offer the same level of customisation and aren’t great with SEO.
Do you arrange domain name and hosting?
Ask if this is included in the website design quote, if not how much is it?
How easy is it to update my website?
How easy will it be to add new pages, new profducts and services. If it requires specialist knowledge, do you get any training
Are there any ongoing costs or website fees?
Check if you have to pay any ongoing fee’s such as website maintenance or hosting fees.
Will my site be optimised for search engines?
A well built website should be optimised for search engines in the form of on-page SEO.
Will the website be mobile responsive?
Having a mobile-friendly website is essential and is now a Google ranking factor.
Do you provide content and images?
Usually the content is down to the client, unless copywriting has been quoted. Images on the other hand can vary, you may be a large company with an existing brand related image library, most WordPress themes come with their own images. There will usually be a charge for the designer to source images for you.
Who owns the website once completed?
Check that you receive full ownership of the website with admin rights, and have access to your web hosting account. Some website builders own your website and you pay them a monthly fee – what happens if you wanted to host your website with another web hosting company?
